Students and teachers were listening to skiing instructions.
A group of Lithuanian students and four teachers from kaunas Sanciai secondary school visited our school for a week in January in 2002.One of the days was devoted to outdoor activities.

Ready to go up the hill!
On Tuesday we went downhill skiing to Sotka and watching reindeer on a reindeer farm near Parkano. The bus left from the Parkano high school yard at 9.00 am. The weather was really fresh and the cold nipped our ears. Anyway our Lithuanian friends were really excited about the trip. Most of them had never been downhill skiing, or even skiing. They were wearing really warm clothes, which was good. The temperature was lower than minus 10 degrees. The trip to Kauhajoki, to Sotka was quite boring, but anyway it went well. Our guests saw lots of snowy scenery on the way there.
When we got to Sotka we had to wait some time to get the sticks, downhill skis and ski boots. The employers of the rental company had very poor knowledge of languages, so some of us had to work as interpreters.
Finnish students went right away to the ski slope, but our friends needed some teaching. We watched how they fell and screamed, because they didn't know how to ski downhill.
There were no downhill skiers on the ski slope. Luckily for them, because they would have jumped into skiers. While we sat in the cafe of the ski slope, they were trying to get on to the ski lift. After a couple of somersaults they finally got on top of the slope and we were very proud of them.
The teachers had arranged sausages, sandwiches and juice in a Lapp hut.
After four hours we were ready to leave. We had horrible hunger, so luckily we had something to eat at the elementary school of Vataja. There we had minced meat soup and Karelian pastries.
Then we went to the reindeer farm and there were about 33 kickledges waiting for us. We kicked our way to Ahvenlampi. It took about 20 minutes to go there. We Finnish students were very exhausted, but Lithuanians were full of enthusiasm. There they made snow angels and we made a snow worm. We all enjoyed the snow. Then we went back home by bus. Everyone was really tired.
Our guests were excited about the whole trip! This project gave us lots of wonderful experiences.
