Strange behaviour? Figure skater fell, North Korean audience applauded
- Finnish figure skater Laura Lepistö performed in front of a North Korean audience in Pyongyang
Finnish figure skater Laura Lepistö performed in front of a North Korean audience in Pyongyang last week.
Something peculiar happened during former European champion’s (2009) performance: when Lepistö fell her double axel jump, the audience politely applauded. Watch the video, filmed by Aamulehti’s journalist, below.
Lepistö and other renowned figure skaters such as Evgeni Plushenko, Nathalie Péchalat and Fabian Bourzat performed in Pyongyang as a part of the Paektusan Festival, held in honor of Kim Jong-il.
Lepistö’s performing in such an event has caused mixed reactions in Finland, generally not too keen on late dictator’s policies. The skater herself, however, insists that her only desire was to bring joy to the people of North Korea.
